Project Manila

In January of 2008, 2010 and November of 2011, we led small mission impact teams to Manila. These groups from the church had the opportunity to travel to Manila (Philippines) to see the work being done by the King Solomon Learning Centre (KSLC) in the slums of Tatalon, Manila.

Here a small church under the leadership and vision of Pastor June and Milleth Paragus established a small school to serve the children of the slums, to give them a chance to break the cycle of poverty, through education and the opportunities that it brings.

Those who were a part of these teams, were so touched and changed by the people they came to know and love, and the significance of the work being done, that a lasting relationship was formed.

Whilst the school continues to provide a quality education for around 900 children, many of them sponsored by people from within our church and others in Australia, social and health issues are a constant threat to the poorest of the poor .

When the plight of these people was brought to the attention of our church family, they imediately embraced these people, and have taken on a social support role with the families of the poorest children.

In 2010, Mayfield Church of Christ established the Kalusogan Centre, A health centre which is now serving over 600 families in the slums of Tatalon. This centre provides basic medical, health education and funding for emergency medical treatment. Shortly after establishing the centre, the Rotary Club of Newcastle Harbour decided to partner with us in this project, effectively doubling our funding and our impact. Amazing things are happening through the work of the Kalusogan Centre.
